shrike Shrike Common or Senator (Lanius senator). True "predatory" between the birds, hunting both large insects and small rodents, lizards and birds. He has a habit of impaling [nailed to a stick] surplus prey on the thorns of the bushes.
The Common Shrike appears at the end of March and most of April. The males are confined in an area rapidly defending against intruders, waiting there on arrival, usually later in females. Once the pair, the male selects the nest site and begins to build.
